2/27/2k4 - RYE CROFTER AND JOHNNY WANDERER SAVE A SMALL TOWN AND LEARN THE TRUE MEANING OF FRIENDSHIP:

Recently we received this message:

"To the Zombie Hunters,

I am writing to you in our darkest hour. I come from a small Canadian town
(Kettle and Stony Point) and we are having a big problem. It started about a
month ago when a strange man appeared in the community (you see our
community is so small and in the middle of wilderness). At first we thought
he was sick from being lost in the woods but within twelve hours he was
dead. In another twelve he was gone. That’s when the trouble started.

We survive mostly by hunting and most of the men go out for days at a time
only this time they didn't come back...yet. They had left the day after the
man disappeared and did not return. The days quickly turned into weeks and
soon people started to go missing. As of right now from a community of 134
we are down to 112. I know the numbers don't seem alarming but that is the
largest amount of missing people ever to hit our town.

And finally yesterday...One of the men returned. He was incoherent and
hostile. He tried biting anyone who came close to him. And he succeeded in
several. I went to school in Toronto and have seen "Zombie" movies believing
them to be false but was surprised when I saw similarities with Jimmy and
the "Zombies" I have seen in movies.

What is worse is that others in the community are now becoming sick and I
don't know how to deal with it. In three days it seems over half of our
population have taken ill and I fear the worst. Our community leaders are
trying to cover this up and are on to me looking for help. They actually
want to stop me. They monitor my incoming mail so I have set up an address
they do not know about.

Can you help? Please email me at spare@ksphs.on.ca

Yours truly

Jill Hennesy"

A quick assessment was made and sent back to her. The plan was to round up all the healthy people into one easily defendable location. There should be an ample supply of weapons plus people with the know how to use them, it being a hunting town and all. The people who were sick would be quarantined. The building they were in would be set on fire unbeknownst to the town (in order to avoid a ruckus). Everyone would be required to take a shower and put on clean clothes before coming. We assumed that the virus was not airborne since people started getting sick after the man came not before (which is usually the case with airborne viruses). It was not predicted that there would be all too many zombies considering the size of the town.
This plan was sent, but we never received word back from Jill. After two days with know reply it was time to take action. Elite Zombie Hunters Rye Crofter and Johnny Wanderer were sent to carry out the plan.
When they arrived things had fallen apart. The town was an old mining colony and the only way in and out through motor vehicle was a bridge. The bridge had been destroyed and our hunters had to go forth on foot. The power lines had also been cut. Someone didn’t want anybody getting out or even the word of this happening escaping. There was no means of protection established and the sick had been hidden. Families were hiding in their houses hoping the problem would go away. Rye Crofter took charge of organizing the town Johnny Wanderer took to the woods taking with him a chain, a chainsaw, and an extra pack of cigarettes.
Rye managed to round up the town and get them to start boarding up a house complete with gun mounts. The mayor was surprised that only two men had been sent. He had known about Jill’s communication to us and he was knowledgeable about zombies. He was certain that we would send troops and burn the town to a crisp, obviously he was not acquainted with our services. As for the sick people, he had taken that matter into his own hands. He had taken them to what he called “the clinic” and told the people of the town that he was quarantining them. In reality he just knocked them on the head and threw them in his wood furnace. He had also destroyed the bridge knowing full well that it was a slim chance his town would survive and he didn’t want this menace to leak out any further.
The defense of the house had been easy, but strange. Not only were there a few zombiefied townspeople, but also animals. It’s seems as though the virus managed to morph to larger mammals. Bears, coyotes, and deer, all attacked the villagers. These demonic creatures were laid to waste with ease from inside the fortress.
After a few days Johnny Wanderer returned covered with blood and tired (although he played it up as though he wasn’t). All he said was “It’s clean.” And then left. Rye Crofter thanked the town for their cooperation and what good people they all were. He especially thanked little Joe who had been a brave little trooper throughout the entire ordeal and had played RISK™ with Rye in-between zombie attacks.
On he way back Rye played 20 questions with himself because Johnny doesn’t like to talk.

Jill Hennesy gets the Jim Rage star of approval for her renegade actions against the head of the town. Way to go Jill*.
